JAKARTA – Persija Jakarta resmi menunjuk pelatih asal Brasil, Mauricio Souza, untuk memimpin tim dalam mengarungi Liga 1 musim 2025/2026. Penunjukan ini sekaligus mengakhiri spekulasi terkait sosok pelatih anyar Macan Kemayoran usai berpisah dengan Carlos Peña.

Souza akan menjadi nahkoda baru Persija setelah sebelumnya sempat menukangi Madura United di Liga 1 2023/2024 . Dalam video perkenalannya yang dirilis Selasa (27/5/2025), pelatih berusia 51 tahun itu menyapa Jakmania dan menyatakan ambisinya bersama tim ibu kota.

“Halo Jakmania. Saya Mauricio Souza, pelatih baru Persija. Tunggu saya di Jakarta. Gue Persija, Gue Champion,” ujar Souza dalam pernyataan resmi klub.

Direktur Persija Jakarta, Mohamad Prapanca, menyatakan harapannya agar Souza mampu membawa tim kembali bersaing di papan atas setelah musim lalu tampil di bawah ekspektasi.

“Kami sangat berharap kepada Coach Mauricio untuk dapat mengawal nama besar Persija. Kami ingin mengakhiri musim dengan suka cita. Bersama Mauricio kami akan bersinergi membentuk tim yang tangguh dan konsisten guna meraih prestasi terbaik,” kata Prapanca.
